Keeping It Real MaMa
There’s nothing like a great way for a family bond like getting away for a family vacation. This family is always up for a family vacation full of adventure. Sure we can find great ways to bond without one but that takes away so much away from time you can be spending together bonding, laughing, and just having fun.
Sure we can stay in town and do different family activities but there’s nothing like getting away with the whole nine yards. Staying near home isn’t the same as a full vacation. The experience is never the same. Home can be distracting and you wanna stay in the comfort of your bed sleeping in as late as possible on that Saturday morning. You more than likely wouldn’t stick with all your plans if you were to stay close to home.
One of our favorite vacation spots in Florida is Key Largo, Fl. We take a trip out there at least twice a year for a week long at a time. There’s so much to do out there. Although you may be thinking the keys is just for boating or fishing, there’s so much to explore.
Key Largo is the first of the fabulous Florida Keys and is the self-proclaimed Dive Capital of the World. It is home to the world's largest artificial reef, the 510-foot USS Spiegel Grove, the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and the African Queen.
Where’s the beat place to stay in Key Largo , Fl ?
Hands down every time we visit we stay at the Ocean Point Suites and Resort. Their customer service is outstanding. Rooms are spacious and the amenities are great for family fun.
Inside the front desk there is a small diner for breakfast , lunch and dinner as well as a bar. Just below the front desk during the day you can rent fishing poles if you didn't pack one. There’s also a private beach and a dock where you can fish or just sit and lounge to enjoy the view, as well as a boat ramp. So if your hitching the boat there’s plenty of parking for the boat and a easy access ramp. The dock is my husbands favorite spot as he loves to fish. He gets up before the crack of dawn with his cup of coffee and heads to the dock for early morning fishing with our oldest daughter.
On the property is also a beautiful pool with an outdoor bar an jacuzzi. Who doesn’t love a good drink and a hot tub! They also have a small playground where my three year old has to stop for the swing every time we pass it. The. Of course she never wants to get off.
Now for the best part. The rooms are amazingly beautiful. We usually book the two bedroom queen. There’s one room with a queen bed and another room with two twin beds. The living room is quite spacious with a pull out sofa and the full kitchens are just what mama needs to cook at least one home cooked meal while away from home. Of course I only cook my sides in the kitchen who needs the oven when there’s picnic tables and grills just below these great rooms.
Enough about the Resort let’s get off the property. We didn’t take a vacation to sit in a room. So what are the best spots to hit while vacationing in Key Largo, Fl
Kingdom Escape Room
Don’t know what an escape room is?
Try being locked into a room full of clues. It’s up to you to beat the timer to win. Each clue leads to another until you solve the puzzle and escape. I’m not gonna ruin the fun for you so don’t take my word for it just be sure to stop in and give this escape room a try. It’s such a rush and you really get a mental work out. It’s good for the brain.
Tropic Jet Ski Rental
Hands down this place is the best. I was so surprised to find such a great place to go and enjoy some jet skiing. We travel in a large group I mean having seven kids so we’re a family of nine. We couldn’t all go out at once as you do have to be a certain age to drive the jet skis and there’s law to follow.
At first we were disappointed thinking we would have to skip the jet skis because we do have smaller kids. When I tell you the owner was great and made sure everyone got to go out and enjoy the ride and view skipping the waves and just enjoying being out on the water he was the best. Dad and I were the only ones able to drive so one older kid stayed up while we took two kids out and visa versa. The owner vouched to help keep an eye on the little ones with whoever stayed behind. Have them drinks and snacks and even filled up the kiddy pool for them to enjoy. Best service ever.
As I mentioned my husband loves fishing so I always make sure to book him a trip. He loves the night fishing adventure and goes with the kids who also love to fish. Not everyone does so we hit the resort and head down to the pool. Last trip they took my twelve year old was on a hot streak catching all the fish. They called him the fish slayer and even featured him in their blog and magazine.
Looking for some adventure
Visit : John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. There’s so much to do in this park. This park is definitely a one day thing. We actually had to do this park one day on our previous trip and one day the trip before that just to get the full experience. From scuba tours to snorkeling canoeing and so much more the whole family will have a blast. My favorite is the glass bottom boat tour. The view of the ocean floor is amazing. At first I have to admit I was scared being able to see below me, now it’s a must do every trip.
Need a date night spot?
Head over to Sundowners and enjoy a drink while the sunsets. They have the best steak and seafood in town. Whether you choose to sit inside or outside you still get the amazing view with their glass walls.
If you happen to visit or have visited any of these great spots we’d love to hear about your adventure.
